About
I have always been writing. I grew up in central Illinois, surrounded by acres of cornfields that reflected the seasons beneath an ever-changing sky. Stanzas of poetry buzzed in my thoughts and I tried to capture them. Fitting words together, like pieces of a puzzle, has always helped me make sense of life.
I’ve earned two degrees in writing—a bachelor of journalism degree from the University of Missouri, Columbia in l967, and a master’s degree in creative writing from SUNY Brockport (State University of New York) in l993. The BJ degree led me into twenty years in a variety of jobs, including newspaper reporter, free-lance writer, and magazine editor. Ten of those twenty years, I worked for St. Louis hospitals, creating the public relations department for Missouri Baptist Hospital, l978-l982 and later developing alumni fund-raising for Deaconess Hospital College of Nursing. After receiving my MA at SUNY Brockport, I moved to Seattle and in l996, published The Butterfly ChaSu (inspirational) and then Tiny Shooting Stars (poetry) in l999 (both WinePress Publishing, Seattle). I’ve published numerous articles and poems and edited a variety of books.
